With a little luck, The Avengers sequel will be just as good as the original film. At least that's what writer and director Joss Whedon has in mind. However, that could prove a difficult task.
The comic book based phenomenon became one of the biggest theatrical hits Hollywood has experienced in recent history. That means the sequel has a lot to live up to. Can it possibly meet the same level of perfection?
Maybe and maybe not. Still, with Joss Whedon at the helm, its chances are looking pretty good. After all he's the man who mad Buffy the Vampire Slayer a household name. The little television show that could wormed its way into the hearts and minds of millions of fans. Then, it stayed front and center for an amazingly long run. That means if Whedon can't make the sequel work, no one can.
Of course it helps that all the key players are returning to the film. That includes Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron Man; Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Chris Evan's Captain America. Hopefully it will also include Mark Ruffalo's Hulk and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. No one would mind a little of Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye or Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury either. In fact, the entire team ought to stick together no matter the number of sequels involved.
However, Whedon might have a problem when it comes to a third or fourth film. That's because he's just signed an exclusive television deal to develop a series based on Marvel Comics all the way through 2015. Therefore, he might not have time for another sequel of The Avengers.
Here's hoping that's not the case. People loved seeing those superheroes working together. It seems fated that they'll want even more.
