There's a new handsome hunk in town and he just knocked out Batman. The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner put Christian Bale's caped crusader to shame at the box office.
Bale and The Dark Knight Rises have stayed on top since their momentous, and deadly, opening weekend. However, Batman is no longer top banana with movie goers. They're going for somebody else who is just as tough and every bit as psychotic. His name is Aaron Cross, aka Jeremy Renner.
Some worried that a "Bourne" film without Matt Damon would seriously flop. They needn't have because Renner brought a new level of machismo to the silver screen. His chemistry with leading lady, Rachel Weisz was undeniable and together they turned a little film into a really good one.
Renner's Bourne turn was worth $40.3 million, easily taking the top spot away from Batman. But Bourne wasn't alone in his defeat of the caped crusader. Will Ferrell and Zack Galfianakis The Campaign also topped Batman, coming in at $27.4 million. The Dark Knight fell to third place with $19.5 million.
The other movies rounding out the top five included the new Meryl Streep/Tommy Lee Jones romantic comedy, Hope Springs ($15.6 million) and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days ($8.6 million). The rest of the top 10 included Total Recall ($8.1 million), Ice Age: Continental Drift ($6.8 million), Ted ($3.3 million), Step Up Revolution ($2.9 million) and The Watch and The Amazing Spider-Man ($2.2 million).
