2 Chainz's new album "Based on a T.R.U" story should have been retitled as there isn't really a story to be told -- or if there is, it's not being told on this album.
Although there is no denying that the College Park, Georgia, rapper is one of hip hop's hottest commodities right now, his much anticipated album leaves a lot to be desired.
Billboard says that on many tracks, you'll be hitting the "skip" button before you even get into the song and while the album title talks about a story being told, there isn't a story in sight -- just a bunch of catchy tunes that may catch your ear but don't have any substance.
"'Birthday Song,' for instance, could have been (the) next trap smash, but the chorus lands with a thud and the 'skip' button is pressed before its five minutes roll by. (He) is still a vibrant character within the hip-hop universe, and has a knack for tossing off zany sayings like they're pennies falling out of his pockets. But 'Based on a T.R.U. Story' is based on an interesting artist we don't get to know well enough. At this juncture, (his) comeback tale feels incomplete."
Have you bought or downloaded 2 Chainz "Based On A T.R.U. Story"? What do you think of it? Was it worth the hype?
