Could Expendables 3 include powerhouse women like Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz and Mila Jovovich? It will if director Simon West, who did Expendables 2, has anything to say about it.
Although he might be half-joking, he laughingly told E! News the film title could be changed to "Expenda-Belles" and include more than a few gorgeous female action stars.
Film costar, Terry Crews put in his two cents worth about the new cast, saying Kate Beckinsale impressed him with her kick-ass performance in the recent Total Recall reboot. It proved to him that women can kick butt with the best of them.
One has to wonder where the actor's been, though. Angelina and Mila have played strong, female action figures for years. Jolie's Tomb Raider series was very successful as has been Jovovich's many versions of Resident Evil. Then there is Cameron Diaz's turn in Charlie's Angels.
The other women on the wish list qualify too. Charlize Theron was amazing as film's Aeon Flux. Then there's Jamie Lee Curtis, who proved age had nothing to do with ability in True Lies. The same applies to Helen Mirren, who put the men to shame in Red.
West says he wouldn't count the men out of the sequel, adding "...it would be a running parallel. They would meet up and then they would fight and they would join up and save each other."
It sounds like a good idea. After all, gone are the days when women were simpering fools who couldn't defend themselves and waited for men to do the job for them. Today's women are strong, fearless and determined in ways men can't begin to understand. Plus, they have other assets to use when it is necessary to distract the enemy.
