NCIS returns to CBS for its 10th season on September 25, and the premiere will show the aftermath of the finale explosion and Ducky's heart attack. For the new season, Brian Dietzen is finally a series regular, so what does that mean for what's coming up for Palmer?
Season 10 Spoilers
According to TVLine, Gary Glasberg has said Dietzen's promotion "was simply long overdue, and something we'd been talking about for a very long time." That is certainly true, and with him now a series regular, you have to wonder if he'll have more to do. With Ducky suffering that heart attack, Jimmy Palmer could have more responsibilities as he recovers in NCIS season 10.
It does seem like that's going to be the case, as Glasberg has said, "Palmer also has an eye-opening experience in the first few episodes, where he really has to step up his game and recognize his own strengths and weaknesses. He's basically the acting coroner, and it's a lot to take on — and that will carry over in the way he handles himself and the rest of the team." Palmer is ready to handle that, though it definitely won't be the same without Ducky around, so hopefully that doesn't last too long. It's easy to imagine Palmer being the one at the crime scenes, and perhaps as Ducky eases back into it, he begins by just being around once the body is brought back for the autopsy. The scenes with Ducky and Palmer are always good, so it would be a shame to miss out on those as well. Hopefully it doesn't last too long, but this should give Palmer a chance to shine as well.
