The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 14 for its third season, which will be introducing Danai Gurira as Michonne and David Morrissey as the Governor and bringing back Michael Rooker as Merle Dixon. What do fans have to look forward to?
Walking Dead Season 3 Spoilers
Entertainment Weekly has some new photos and spoilers from the upcoming season to tide fans over for the remaining time before the season 3 premiere, and if you weren't excited about seeing Michonne, the Governor, the prison, and Merle again, you should be after these. When season 2 ended, Michonne was very briefly introduced (but not played by Gurira) when she saved Andrea from walkers. Andrea will still be with Michonne, who "forms a strong bond with tortured sharpshooter Andrea, though that bond will quickly be tested" in season 3. In fact, they're going to be "at odds" once they get to Woodbury. Could that be because Michonne won't trust the Governor while Andrea will be telling him about the other survivors, as seen in the promo below?
The Walking Dead season 3 will also be bringing Merle back. He was last seen cuffed to a roof, walkers coming for him, and all that was left behind was his hand. Well, he's back and with a new accessory (a bayonet) on his arm. He also "comes to Woodbury" with "a questionable sense of loyalty." Will there be a Dixon reunion this season, or will Merle and Daryl end up on opposite sides with the Governor and Rick facing off? Daryl is going to be Rick's right-hand man, but will that change with his brother back? If you were talking about the Daryl from season 1, there would be no question about that. However, Daryl has certainly changed over the past season, and now, it seems more likely he'll try to get Merle back onto his side than turn his back on the others. However, anything could happen before the season's over.
Meanwhile, Rick and the group of survivors will be making their way to the prison, where they will have to fight their way inside. That's going to include Glenn stabbing a walker in the head through a fence. There are going to be many walker kills as the survivors try to make the prison safe. They've lost enough people as it is; will everyone survive their stay in the prison? With the Governor coming—and the confrontations that are coming between him and Rick—it doesn't seem likely.
