This week on The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep, the four mentors are in New York as they meet with some talented young people hoping to make it in the music business.
John Rich rode into the streets of New York on a horse. He sure knows how to get people talking. He meets A-Wall, a local songwriter who battled a brain tumor at the age of fifteen. He says that he has always been self-conscious of his scar, but John reminded him that the ladies in the audience will love him. He did an amazing job on stage. Nelly said that he had swag as he sang "Sexy Love."
Nelly met up with Baiyu who works in advertising and is a local YouTube sensation. Nelly decided to work on her wardrobe and they start cleaning out her closet. She belted out "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie in front of an enthusiastic crowd in New York.
Next up is Joe Jonas who meets Frankie Z. as he is teaching a dance class. Joe learns that Frankie has been in a boy band but now is going solo. Joe can certainly relate to that. Frankie also has a large family of Italians who Joe says are loud. Joe told him that he needed to smile and have fun while singing. Mama Z needed help in the kitchen, so Joe had Frankie sing as they made meatballs for dinner. Frankie sang "In My Head" as he danced around on stage, which made the girls melt in the audience.
Gloria decided to surprise Ali at the nail salon and then got to make pizza with her. She had Ali sing as she was throwing pizza dough in the air. Gloria gave her some tips on how to relax and to use the microphone stand to her advantage on stage. She did an awesome job singing "When I Look at You" by Miley Cyrus. In fact, she did so well that she was voted to go to LA for the finals.
Nelly and John Rich also rocked it out on stage singing "American Woman." They sounded great together.
Next week on The Next, the team heads to the windy city of Chicago.
