When So You Think You Can Dance 2012 resumed on September 5, the top 6 took to the stage with a collection of inspirational and entertaining performances. Hopeful Tiffany Maher and SYTYCD all-star Benji Schwimmer opened the two-hour episode with a hyperactive Jive that earned a standing ovation.
Tiffany and Benji, the so-called king of swing who won season 2, met up with choreographer Jean-Marc Genereux to rehearse. The number was set in a diner and aimed to tell the story of a girl and the guy all the girls like.
And the final product was absolutely, one hundred percent likable. Dancing to the inexorably peppy "What I Like About You," Tiffany and Benji were beyond fabulous. Tiffany's precise legwork was stunning, and the two of them together delivered a high-energy fusion of fun and skill.
The judges rewarded the effort with a standing ovation. Nigel Lythgoe said "the energy that was generated there just lifted this entire audience." He called Tiffany "absolutely tremendous." Mary Murphy called it "amazing" and loved how they'd "kicked their little patooties off." Guest Christina Applegate was impressed with with the "osmosis" they'd attained as a couple.
With just one more week of So You Think You Can Dance 2012 remaining, Tiffany will go head to head against fellow gal Eliana Girard for the title of America's favorite female dancer. Can she get it done? Tune in next week and find out.
