Glee returns to Fox with its fourth season premiere on September 13, and "The New Rachel" will show you what's going on for most of the characters, both in New York and back at McKinley. After screening the episode, Gather.com has five teasers as you wait for next week:
"The New Rachel" has a double meaning. The title not only refers to Rachel in New York, it also is about New Directions. With Rachel gone, they need a new leader. It's going to be up to Artie to choose, which he will after the contenders show him what they've got. Meanwhile, Rachel's going to be adjusting to life in New York, and that includes facing an important performance and dealing with a roommate who would get on anyone's nerves.
Kurt's still figuring things out. As teased in the promo (below) for the new season, Kurt will be spending a bit of time at McKinley. He still has to figure out his future after he was rejected by NYADA (but he has a plan concerning that), but he does seem to be in a bit of a holding pattern, which you could pretty much guess. By the end of the episode, he's on the right path. And for a bonus, Mike O'Malley makes a brief appearance that just leaves you wanting to see more Burt.
McKinley hasn't forgotten about the Nationals win. At the end of season 3, the New Direction won Nationals and were welcomed back with a celebration. Well, that popularity is still present when Glee season 4 begins and lots of people are signing up to join the club (including, as you can expect, those who really shouldn't be). Will that last?
Introducing the new characters. This first episode gives you a look at several new characters, both in New York (Brody and Cassandra) and at McKinley (Kitty, Marley, Jake, and the transferring Unique). While sneak peeks have already teased Cassandra's treatment of Rachel, there's more to the dance instructor than that attitude. Also, you may not like it if you're a "Finchel" fan, but Brody's actually a pretty likeable character as he gives Rachel some advice—and not just about academics. Meanwhile, back at McKinley, the new students seem set to fill the gaps left by the graduating seniors. Kitty is, as expected, taking over the popular, throwing-insults-and-nicknames-around role (like Santana) and is head cheerleader (like Quinn), Marley could end up being the next Rachel given time, Unique's going to be adjusting to a new school, and Jake's, well, he's obviously related to Puck.
Couples update. The season 4 premiere also gives you an update on where some of last season's couples (Rachel/Finn, Kurt/Blaine, Mike/Tina, Brittany/Santana) are and will be in the future.
