Fringe returns to Fox for its fifth and final season on September 28 with "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11." If you missed season 4's "Letters of Transit," which gave a look at 2036, you're going to want to watch it before the premiere.
Fringe Season 5 Episode 1 "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11" Official Description
"The fifth and final season picks up from the ominous events of last season's 'Letters of Transit' episode, in which the year is 2036 and the overpowering Observers rule. The Fringe team—preserved in amber for 20 years—is now a rebel resistance team fighting for freedom. Peter, reunited with his now adult daughter, Etta, sets out to find out what happened to his wife and Etta's mom—Olivia—as they start their mission to save the world from the Observers."
Yes, Fringe season 5 is going back to the future, and it's going to be up to the Fringe team fresh out of amber to go up against the Observers. The future is a scary place, and Fox has been releasing promos teasing government rule under the Observers (like the ones below). The season 4 episode, "Letters of Transit," gave a glimpse at what to expect from the Observers and what's going on in the future.
"Letters of Transit" also showed the team being taken out of amber—only Olivia wasn't with them. The big question is what happened to her. While Etta was reunited with her father, now it's going to be up to her and Peter to find her. That's something people have been wondering about since last year, and hopefully it's not too long into the season that they reveal the answer to that.
