The September 11 performance finale of So You Think You Can Dance 2012 featured a wide array of impressive routines from the four hopefuls still vying for the title of America's Favorite Dancer. Included in the mix were Chehon Wespi-Tschopp and Eliana Girard, who showed off their ballet chops with a Nutcracker piece that drew a standing ovation.
Despite their roots in the genre, both admitted during rehearsals that it was challenging to attempt an intensive ballet routine after so much time away from class. But they persevered and hit the SYTYCD stage ready to impress.
And impress they did. Chehon showed off his amazing strength, performing lift after lift and supporting Eliana as she, in turn, put her incredible extensions and control on display. The duo earned a standing ovation for the effort.
Guest judge Rob Marshall loved their versatility. He remarked on Eliana's "breathtaking" extensions and praised Chehon for pulling off a very difficult routine. Nigel Lythgoe praised Eliana for making such a difficult piece "look so easy" and called Chehon "a wonderful support" for his partner. Mary Murphy found it "spectacular" and thought that having two ballet dancers in the finale was "a triumph" for the show. She vowed to forever remember the moment.
Eliana and Chehon were indeed awesome, but can they better competitors Tiffany Maher and Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer? If Nigel has his way, absolutely. He revealed via Twitter following the show that he'd cast his votes for Eliana and Chehon. Though the admission might be considered controversial given his status as a producer and judge, he has a right to state his opinion, just like everyone else who votes.
So who will win So You Think You Can Dance 2012? Watch the finale on September 18 and find out.
