The Walking Dead season 3 premieres on AMC on October 14, and the new episodes this fall will introduce new cast members Danai Gurira and David Morrissey as Michonne and the Governor. What's coming up in Woodbury?
Walking Dead Season 3 Spoilers
Entertainment Weekly has some new photos of Woodbury showing Michonne, Andrea, and the Governor in Woodbury. Season 3 will begin "several months after the end of season 2," which means that Andrea and Michonne have had time to "become very close." When season 2 ended, Michonne had saved Andrea from walkers after the poor woman had been running from them after being left behind at the farm. This is one bond that should be very entertaining to watch, including what happens to it once they get to Woodbury. Gurira explains that "Andrea is the first person [Michonne's] really been able to open up to, to love, to care for, take care of." It should be good to see Andrea have someone in her life after she lost her sister and, though she doesn't know it yet, lost Shane.
However, their friendship could grow strained once Woodbury comes into the picture. As trailers have teased, Michonne does not like this place, but Andrea seems to be more drawn to it than her companion. As Laurie Holden previews about The Walking Dead season 3, "She asked a lot of questions at first and she was a bit wary. But the Governor is very seductive — in a calm, loving sense. If you look around, everybody seems happy ...It's pretty idyllic." Well, looks can be deceiving, and you have to wonder how long it will be before Andrea realizes that and what will happen before she does. There are going to be confrontations coming up between Rick and the Governor; which side will Andrea end up on with Dale and Shane dead?
Meanwhile, David Morrissey previews of the Governor, "People in the world that we inhabit need structure, they need to feel safe, and he provides that. And I think any leader of any community has to earn trust. And the idea of power is a really interesting idea of how people keep their power in a community. They keep it in all different ways. ... But they can also take those gifts away, they can be intimidating. They can be powerful, they can protect you from the enemy, whether that protection is just a fight or not, or whether they create the feeling of paranoia in order to suppress it. ... I think he does all those things. The world that has been created plays into his hands." Morrissey should hopefully do a good job portraying this in season 3. You can already see how the Governor is going to be a chilling character with these teases, the photos, and the previews that have been released. If the season is anything like those, the Governor could be one of the reasons why this season could be the best yet of the television series.
