This week the Great Food Truck Race continues in Nashville, TN. The remaining four teams are competing for a $50,000 prize and their very own food truck.
Although the teams thought they would meet up in Nashville, their first meeting was actually forty miles south of Nashville, in Pottsville, TN, the home of country singers/writers Joey and Rory. The teams would start out with a truck stop. The truck stop challenge was to create a picnic lunch for Joey and Rory. The couple would judge the meal and the winner would then receive a special reward. Each team was given $300 in seed money to buy products. They would have to go to the local farmer's market for food for the picnic, but being a very small town, the supply and variety were very limited. Nonetheless, each team decided on a menu. Pop-a-Waffle would prepare southern fried chicken, corn on the cob and grilled vegetables. Seoul Sausage chose to stay somewhat with their cooking style. They opted for a Korean spicy pork empanadas, country potato salad and a deep-fried pie. Momma's Grizzly Grub chose to make a chipotle chicken dish along with sweet potatoes and cole slaw. And, Nonna's Kitchenette their infamous Italian burger, macaroni and cheese and garlic roasted corn. After judging, Pop-a-Waffle was deemed the winner of this challenge and would take home Rory's guitar which was valued at $1,000 and the cash placed in their till. Additionally, they were given the privilege of selling at a private party hosted by the country singers. The guest list would total about 1,500 people and they would have the advantage of remaining in Pottsville. The other teams would have to travel back to Nashville.
In Nashville, Momma's Grizzly Grub decides to park downtown in front of an ice cream shop. Their menu will remain the same with tacos and lemonade being their main staples. Nonna's Kitchenette would also park downtown but chose another area. Their menu would include Italian meatball sliders, root beer floats and ice cream sandwiches. Seoul Sausage arranged to set up at an outdoor event in East Nashville and made no changes to their menu. Meanwhile, Pop-a-Waffle was at the party serving lots of customers their chicken and waffles along with pomegranate lemonade. At the end of the day, Momma's Grizzly Grub and Nonna's Kitchenette were disappointed with their sales. Thus, they both decided to move locations the next day. Seoul Sausage was pleased and planned to return to their location in East Nashville.
The following day, Seoul Sausage ran into a big problem when they got lost trying to find a grocery store. Nonna's Kitchenette had an even bigger problem when they hit a car. Meanwhile, Tyler called the teams with their weekend speed bump. The challenge - the chefs would have to tell everyone else to leave the truck. They would no longer be able to work or help out on the truck. Instead they were replaced by culinary art students.
At elimination, Pop-a-Waffle is finally in first place making them safe. In second place is Nonna's Kitchenette, however because of the car accident they are not safe. Like last week with Momma Grizzly Grub's accident, the driver of the car was kind enough to claim the accident on his insurance. Nonetheless, the team had to pay $250 toward the deductible. They still however remained in second place. In third place and safe was Seoul Sausage meaning Momma's Grizzly Grub had to go home.
Next week the remaining three teams will travel northeast to Cleveland, Ohio.
