SPN Season 8 Spoilers and Casting News
According to TVLine, Amanda Tapping will be playing the "major recurring role" of Naomi, described as "cool and mysterious, part of a new group of angels we've never seen before" by showrunner Jeremy Carver. She has also been described as a "no-nonsense bureaucrat" who "wears a business suit and has her hair pulled back." The character description goes on to say that she's not as put together as she seems and "her efficient manner belies a deeper emotionality."
Naomi will first be appearing in Supernatural season 8 episode 7, "A Little Slice of Kevin." The promo for the season has already revealed that Kevin telling Sam and Dean about closing the gates of hell for good. Crowley's after him, and last season already showed the angels after the prophet. Will this "new group of angels" be friends or foes? Given their history with angels, it's not like Sam and Dean will be ready to just trust this group. Then you have to consider what's going on with Dean and Benny this season and the secrets the older Winchester brother will be keeping. Will the angels know about that? Could they be the ones to bring it up and clue Sam into what's going on with his brother? Will they somehow be involved in whatever's going on with Castiel this season? Considering they're angels, it seems safe to bet he'll at least be brought up, but it's still unclear just what's going to happen to him in purgatory.
More casting news reveals that Mike Farrell will be appearing in the eighth episode. He'll play Fred Jones, "an aging mentalist with a slippery grasp on reality," according to Carver. That's not much, but it sounds like it could be an interesting episode, depending on just how he fits into the storyline and how Sam and Dean encounter him. Will he show them one way that someone involved in the supernatural ages and what could happen if they reach a certain age? Could he be the one they have to hunt because by losing his grip on reality, he may unknowingly be responsible for deaths? Anything's possible on this show.
