The 50 Shades of Grey movie has gained another option for the role of Christian Grey - Jake Gyllenhaal recently said that he's interested in playing the part.
Jake seems to enjoy playing characters involved in difficult relationships, so he obviously wouldn't have an issue playing Christian Grey, a billionaire whose intense desire for control drives him to take on sex slaves.
Jake's 2010 movie Love and Other Drugs was also all about sex. In it he plays a womanizing Viagra salesman who falls in love with a woman with Parkinson's disease who only wants a physical relationship. The lucky actor got to share some steamy sex scenes with a nude Anne Hathaway in the romantic dramedy.
Jake and Anne Hathaway also teamed up for another movie about an unconventional relationship - Jake and Heath Ledger played cowboys trying to hide their gay relationship in Brokeback Mountain.
According to Digital Spy, here's what Jake Gyllenhaal said when Ryan Seacrest informed him that 50 Shades of Grey fans were pushing for him to get cast as Christian:
"That's super flattering. I mean, I have not heard that, but if that's true then that's a nice thing. It's always nice to be considered."
When Ryan asked him if he would consider starring in the movie, he said this:
"Yeah, of course! I always want to work, man, of course."
His answer was definitely more decisive than those given by some other actors recently - Ryan Gosling and Alexander Skarsgard wouldn't say yes or no when they were asked if they would play Christian Grey. So Fifty fans should find Jake's positive response refreshing.
But can 50 Shades fans picture Jake as Christian? He might look a little too soft and harmless for the role when compared to other favorites like Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder - fans love these actors for the part because their chiseled jaw lines and icy eyes make them look dark and intimidating. But surely most Fifty fans will agree that Jake looked rugged and sexy in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and he proved that he can actually do dark and disturbed pretty well in Donnie Darko.
So can you picture the former Bubble Boy star in Christian's Red Room of Pain?
