In case you've been hiding away in a hobbit hole, it may interest you to know that this is Tolkien Week. This yearly event (yes, it's real) celebrates, of course, all things J.R.R. Tolkien. True Middle-earth fans will know that Tolkien week is always the week that includes September 22, otherwise known as Hobbit Day (the date is Bilbo and Frodo's shared birthday).
And what better way to celebrate this big (little?) week than to check out Warner Bros.' newly released trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey?
The trailer mostly focuses on the early scenes from the book, in which Gandalf (Ian McKellen, reprising his role from The Lord of the Rings) induces the reluctant Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) to join a rowdy band of dwarves on a very un-hobbit-like journey.
But there are also glimpses of the exciting action and adventure to come for Bilbo and his new friends. Keep in mind that this is only the first film of what was at first going to be a two-parter but is now expected to be another trilogy like LOTR.
Some may wonder why director Peter Jackson is turning the single book called The Hobbit into three movies. But this trailer gives a hint of the wealth of material to be explored. Given that, as well as some added scenes that aren't in the book, it's becoming more and more evident that Jackson will have plenty to work with over the course of three films.
Another thing that's pretty cool about this trailer is that on the official website, you can choose from four other endings to it and send the one you like best to your friends. All the better to get them excited so they'll come with you to the premiere of the film on December 14th!
