New Girl season 2 premieres September 25 with two new episodes, and after screening those two episodes, "Re-Launch" and "Katie," Gather.com participated in a conference call with Zooey Deschanel previewing what's coming up on the Fox comedy.
Jess' parents. Deschanel is excited about bringing in Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis as her character's parents, characters they had been thinking about bringing in for a while. They'll be introduced in the Thanksgiving episode, and Deschanel sees them as "so perfect" for the roles. While her mother is an actress, there was never any possibility of her playing Jess' mother. She'd like to work with her mother, but not playing her character's mother.
Jess losing her job. In the season premiere, Jess loses her job, and Deschanel previews that she'll be "looking for a job for a little while and sort of trying out different jobs." You'll be able to see Jess in another job in "Re-Launch" at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. While Jess "considers teaching to be her calling," Deschanel points out that Jess is going to be "open to" and "pretty positive about things." What else would you expect from Jess?
Nick and Jess. Of course everyone wants to know when Nick and Jess will get together on New Girl, and Deschanel say that "there's no danger of that happening" too soon. She goes on say, "They're not getting together anytime soon. They're not ready for each other and nobody's going to push them together." For now, fans can enjoy, as Deschanel describes it, their "sort of love-hate-love relationship."
