Many 50 Shades of Grey fans have been praying for Matt Bomer to get cast as seductive sex god Christian Grey, which sadly hasn't happened yet. However, Bomer fans will get the chance to see him in another movie featuring an epic romance.
The White Collar star has been cast in Winter's Tale, which is based on author Mark Helprin's novel of the same name. His book features an alternate version of New York; a battle of good vs. evil; and a love story that spans centuries. There's also plenty of magic with time travel; a flying white horse; and a cloud wall that could be a portal to a different world.
The ambitious story also features a bridge-builder who turns out to be an exile from heaven trying to construct a bridge that will help him leave the earth once again. It seems like a challenging tale to bring to the silver screen, but it should be fun to watch if director Akiva Goldsman succeeds.
One of the love stories in Winter's Tale features a thief who falls for a dying girl after trying to rob her house. The thief will be played by Colin Farrell, and his invalid love interest will be portrayed by Downtown Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay.
Unfortunately it sounds like Matt Bomer will only have a small part at the beginning of the movie. He'll be playing the father of the thief, and his wife will be played by True Blood star Lucy Griffiths. At the beginning of Winter's Tale, the couple places a baby in a model boat that they set afloat in New York Harbor. The baby grows up to be Colin Farrell's thief character.
So at least 50 Shades of Grey fans will have double the eye candy to ogle with Matt and Colin in the same movie. Perhaps fans should also start looking at Lucy Griffiths and Jessica Brown Findlay as Anastasia Steele options—they both have the right look for the part.
Winter's Tale also stars Russell Crowe as gangster Pearly Soames and Will Smith and Eva Marie Saint in unknown roles.
The story might not be sexy enough for 50 Shades fans, but perhaps the movie's supernatural romance will draw in fans of Twilight, which 50 Shades was based on.
So are you looking forward to seeing Matt in Winter's Tale?
