The 50 Shades of Grey movie has a few frontrunners in the eyes of Fifty fans, and Matt Bomer is definitely one of the top three favorites alongside Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill.
However, IB Times is trying to worry Bomer fans by claiming that the actor might be too busy to star in the movie.
In addition to working on his TV series White Collar, Matt has two movies in the works - he'll be playing an early AIDS victim in The Normal Heart, and he's been cast as the father of a thief in A Winter's Tale.
His role in A Winter's Tale seems fairly small; however, it's likely that he'll only be featured in a short sequence at the beginning of the movie. He'll have a slightly larger role in The Normal Heart, in which he plays the gay lover of a HIV activist (Mark Ruffalo). The movie, which is based on the Broadway play, will be directed by Glee creator Ryan Murphy, and it sounds like it could really help Matt Bomer's movie career take off. It features other big names like Julia Roberts (who would make a great Elena), Jim Parsons, and Alec Baldwin.
Perhaps scoring these two roles will actually help Matt's chances of getting cast in the 50 Shades of Grey movie - other filmmakers' faith in Matt might help convince the 50 Shades producers that he is perfectly capable of playing Christian Grey.
American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis has claimed that Matt is too gay to play Grey, so the actor might also decide to pursue the role simply to prove the writer wrong.
Matt won over women by playing a living Ken doll in Magic Mike, and his female fans would probably love to see more of him on the silver screen. In fact, a few of them have been complaining that he doesn't get enough screen time in the movies that he gets cast in. Matt also has a lot of Fifty fans campaigning for him, so surely he would find some time in his busy schedule to work on the 50 Shades movie if he gets an offer to play Christian Grey.
The film would probably end up paying him more money than A Winter's Tale and The Normal Heart combined, and it would likely lead to Matt scoring some really juicy parts in other movies. So basically he'd be crazy to turn the movie down.
So are you hoping that Matt can make room in his schedule to play Christian, or would you rather see the role go to someone else?
