The brand new DWTS All Stars 2012 season bade farewell to its first celebrity contestant on September 25, narrowing the field to 12 and guaranteeing even more fierce competition between the remaining dozen. But which star saw his--or her--Dancing with the Stars dreams come crashing down just two days into the live shows?
Alternating between special guest performances by Justin Bieber and Pitbull and plenty of dancing, hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke systematically saved one celebrity/professional couple throughout the hour, beginning with Olympian Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough and ending with TV host Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani. Left in the danger zone were activist Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, singer Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya, and international superstar Pamela Anderson and Tristan MacManus.
To get the final elimination started, Tom revealed that Bristol and Mark were safe to dance again, leaving Drew and Anna and Pamela and Tristan as the bottom two for the week, based on judges' scores and viewer votes. The two couples descended into the ballroom for the final reveal. After the usual dramatic pause, Pamela Anderson became the first contestant dismissed from season 15.
A clearly disappointed Pamela vowed to "keep dancing" with Tristan, and Tom assured her that they'd have her back later in the season to perform.
So did America get it right? Yes. Pam was, by far and away, the worst performer during the premiere. She wasn't at her best and didn't seem comfortable in the ballroom. In the highly competitive field that makes up the all-star season, anyone who falls behind will wind up under the bus, and Pam was simply the first to be hit. It was, however, a surprise to see Drew in the bottom two. But a lot of time has passed since he won season two with Cheryl Burke, so his fans should be sure to vote next time.
DWTS All Stars 2012 continues October 1 on ABC with more great dancing.
