The Academy Awards are a big deal and, every year, fans look forward to who will host the star-studded event. Last year, Billy Crystal hosted the event (as he has in the past), but on February 24, 2013, an edgier host will take the stage.
Most know Seth MacFarlane for his wildly successful animated show Family Guy. Not only is he the mastermind behind the hit show, but he also lends his voice to many of the characters. The show was cancelled by Fox in 2001, but overwhelming response caused the network to bring it back in 2004. Of course, not everyone appreciates the kind of humor showcased on the show, so it will certainly be interesting to see how MacFarlane handles the Academy Awards.
In a statement, Seth MacFarlane talked about being picked to host the event saying, "It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen roast."
Over the past couple of years, the awards show has tried hard to appeal to younger audiences and increase viewership. Choosing MacFarlane as a host will certainly draw in some viewers who may not have initially planned on watching the event. He's edgy, charismatic, and certainly has what it takes to make people laugh.
Are you surprised that Seth MacFarlane will be hosting the show?
