Recent WWE rumors have arrived involving The Undertaker and his possible return for WrestleMania 29 in 2013. While WWE has hyped possible Mania matches, including one against The Rock, it also appears the "Deadman" is suffering from bad post-surgery issues that weren't reported after his latest clash with Triple H at WM 28. Will this mean no more "streak" or future matches for a legendary character in pro wrestling history?
While there's been all sorts of rumors suggesting Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar, or CM Punk, and now The Rock, there's a new bit of news that could squash that talk. A report from PWInsider via WrestlingInc says that Taker is pretty beat up after surgery he's had over the past several years, including hip replacement he had a few years back. The injury has apparently left him hurting, especially after that epic battle against Triple H in a Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania 28. Apparently, the issues have plagued Taker to the point he is visiting specialists in New York, and now WWE is flying doctors to his home in Texas to help him out.
There had been rumors that "The Phenom" could show up as a surprise entrant in the 2013 Royal Rumble. While he wouldn't be the likely winner in the match, it would certainly help get fans excited about it. The Pay-Per-View is also expected to have The Rock battling whomever the WWE Champion is heading into the event. Speaking of Rock, there were also rumors of him challenging Undertaker at WM29, but those were part of a fictional story on WWE to promote the event and hype possible matches involving Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for next year's PPV.
As for Undertaker's next appearance, a battle royal style match makes sense, versus having him battle a physical opponent one-on-one. Having Taker in the Royal Rumble could allow for him to not have to be too physical and maybe get some eliminations, before being eliminated somehow. He'll just have to be careful with the hip on the way out of the ring.
The WrestlingInc article also notes:
"Right now The Undertaker is not being figured into any major WrestleMania plans internally. The feeling is if he wants to do it and feels like he can do it, WWE will make room for him. It wouldn't be the first time but it's possible could see The Undertaker skip a WrestleMania in 2013.
Some people within WWE are under the impression that the "end of an era" hype from this year's WrestleMania against Triple H really was the end as far as big time WrestleMania matches for The Undertaker go."
That's certainly sad news for longtime fans of The Undertaker, who has become a fixture within WWE wrestling over several generations, all the way back to the WWF. It brings up a similar situation which occurred with Edge having to retire due to injury issues, and not wanting to wind up in a wheelchair.
However, it's not written in stone, or on his "tombstone," so to speak, that the legend is dead just yet. There's still time for Taker's specialists to help him address his hip issues via the appropriate rehab or relaxation efforts, and he doesn't need to go into matches involving flying over the ropes or onto the outside floor. A perfect example was his battle with Triple H in the cell, which kept the two competitors basically using holds and weapons throughout the match, rather than high-flying moves.
If that was Taker's last official Mania match, it's a sad day. Let's hope that the legend continues and he is able to fight another battle to extend that streak, should his health allow it.
