It's good news for fans of The X Factor USA 2012: The live show premiere will air a day earlier than originally planned, according to an announcement posted today to the reality show's Facebook page. New co-hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian-Odom are now set to make their show debut on October 31 from 8 to 10:07 PM ET/PT on FOX. But is it really good news for Simon Cowell's brainchild?
Ironically, it's probably not. Although FOX recently okayed a third season, the show has struggled in the ratings, routinely losing out—in grand fashion, no less—to competing singing competition The Voice, which features a power-packed mentoring cast of its own in Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green. Moving the live show debut to Halloween night will likely cost the show dearly when it comes to viewership; although die-hard fans will probably tune in, a lot of potential viewers will be out partying or, in the case of younger watchers, trick-or-treating. And of course, fewer available viewers equals poorer ratings and less exposure for the fledgling competitors.
It's an unfair blow to season two's top 16, a tremendously gifted group of performers whose talents cover nearly the entire spectrum of musical genres, from country crooner Tate Stevens to the newly formed rap trio Lyric 145, to vocal powerhouse CeCe Frey.
So how will the cast adapt to having one less day to prepare for their first live performances? Tune in to The X Factor USA 2012 on Wednesday night and find out.
