The X Factor USA 2012 resumed November 7 with "Songs from the Movies" week. The top 13 acts mostly impressed with their personal iterations of hits from a variety of popular flicks. Faring especially well were the girls of the newly renamed Fifth Harmony, who closed out the two hour episode with a stirring rendition of a song made popular by the Twilight saga.
But before the members of the band formerly known as both LYLAS and 1432 got down to the business of singing for America's votes, they shared their individual roles within the group. Normani Hamilton and Lauren Jauregui were both deemed the "fierce" ones, while Dinah Jane Hansen and Camila Cabello were respectively named the "lovable" and "adorable" ones respectively. Nineteen-year-old Ally Brooke, finally, was labeled the "little big sister," in recognition of her age as well as her diminutive stature. Simon called the collective bunch of them "infectious," and appreciated how well they balance one another's talents.
Their live show version of "A Thousand Years" was an impressive show of vocal talent. The harmonies sounded as if they'd been singing together for years, and they made the right choice by having the personable Camila--who Demi Lovato reluctantly confessed was her favorite of the five last week--open and close the number. The number represented a dramatic improvement over their October 31 version of a bubble gummy Taylor Swift tune and should keep them in the game for at least another week.
LA Reid said he didn't love the new name, but was impressed with their singing and thought they "nailed it." Teens mentor Britney Spears commented "this week from last week is like night and day" and was impressed with the upgrade. Demi Lovato called them "all powerful vocalists" though she didn't care for the arrangement. Simon finished up the critiques with "I think there's something incredibly exciting about your potential" and praised their vocals as "stunning."
Will Fifth Harmony advance to the top 12? Tune into the November 8 The X Factor USA 2012 results show on FOX to find out, and to see not just one but two performances by the global sensation One Direction.
