Advance ticket sales for Breaking Dawn Part 2 are already way ahead of where they were for Breaking Dawn Part 1 prior to its premiere. Now some are wondering if the last film in the Twilight series can beat out The Hobbit in the holiday box office wars.
According to a report from EOnline, it will likely all come down to demographics, even though the second Breaking Dawn is ahead at this point and will play in theaters for almost a month before The Hobbit premieres.
The last thre
e Twilight installments averaged $290 million at the box office and sales are expected to top that for this last film. However some say The Hobbit, the first J.R.R. Tolkien film in almost ten years, will see $400 million.
It supposedly will all come down to demographics. The Hobbit features main characters that will appeal to entire families, whereas Breaking Dawn Part 2 appeals mostly to females. The last Twilight films opens nationwide on November 16th. It's red carpet Hollywood premiere is tomorrow and features Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and more.
The Hobbit opens on December 14th and will still be relatively new on Christmas Day and the day after, traditionally two huge days for box office sales.
Which film do you think will win the holiday box office wars? Will either wind up as a casualty?
