A healthy handful of the top 12 acts on The X Factor USA 2012 earned complimentary remarks from mentors Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid on November 14. But it was 13-year old Carly Rose Sonenclar's precocious vocal talent that stunned two of them into uttering a pair the strangest comments in show history.
With her mom and dad backstage cheering her on, the teen hit went live with an ambitious song choice handpicked by mentor Britney in honor of her young protege's tremendous talent: Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On". And Carly didn't disappoint. She once again showed off a beyond her years vocal maturity and virtually perfect tone. Her second place finish in last week's viewer vote was no fluke, and her "Titanic" of a performance could very well nab her the tippy top spot during tonight's results show.
The mentors were aghast, in a good way. Over 25s mentor LA, whose country crooning finalist Tate Stevens earned top honors last week, turned to Spears and reluctantly admitted "we could be looking at the winner". Demi Lovato groaned "ugh, you were so good". So good, in fact, that Demi made an odd, mostly joking remark in "I don't believe it's your voice. I feel like Celine Dion is here and she's hiding". Simon did Demi one better in the weird department with "I don't believe you're a human being... because you can't do that at 13". He called her control "absolutely incredible". Britney was delighted, and told Carly Rose she gave her "chills all over my body".
Greatness in absolutely in store for Carly Rose Sonenclar, even if America fails to choose her as the ultimate winner of the show. Although there's virtually no way she won't advance to the top 10, two of her fellow finalists will indeed fall by the wayside during tonight's double elimination. The X Factor USA 2012 November 15 results show is set for 8 PM on FOX.
