On Big Bang Theory "43 Peculiarity," Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is thinking about a frisbee-size wormhole. But, more importantly, at 2:45 p.m. every day, he's disappearing and the boys think he's up to something.
Will Leonard get over his jealousy?
While Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard (Simon Helberg) are determined to solve the "modern mystery dinner party" that is Sheldon's 20 minutes of free time every afternoon, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) has other matters of the heart to worry over, like Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and her new partner in class. He's a guy named Cole (Ryan Cartwright)... with an English accent. And so begins Leonard constantly asking, "We're still dating, right?"
With his jealousy in full force, Leonard ends up turning, only for the sake of convenience, of course, to Sheldon for some advice. But as Leonard turns away from the peephole, Sheldon says, "To be honest, I didn't know you were here."
Then Sheldon is anything but reassuring as he spouts all the statistics/reasons why Leonard should be worried, like the fact that Leonard's looks are average, meaning 50% of men are more attractive than him. Plus, the only things going for him, according to Sheldon, are his choice of friends, the fact he doesn't snore, and that he buys the grapes Sheldon likes. Not only that, but Sheldon ventures a random hypothesis, "what if he's a skilled hypnotist?" If Cole is just that, "He could be having the time of his life, while she's a chicken pecking for corn."
Absurdity aside, Leonard decides to do something about his jealousy on Big Bang Theory "43 Peculiarity." When Cole leaves Penny's, Leonard runs after him and starts chatting, claiming the cute blonde on floor four has a scary dude boyfriend. And, yeah, he's in a gang called the scientists. And the absurdity continues... especially since, as Penny points out, Cole knows what Leonard looks like because his picture is in her apartment.
Leonard then turns to Sheldon's assistant Alex (Margo Harshman) for some advice, but she has none. Because she keeps hitting on him. "Maybe you're getting hit on and you don't even realize it," she says, and all he can do is laugh. Here's guessing Alex and Leonard's story isn't over.
But neither is Leonard and Penny's. When Penny confronts Leonard about what his "problem" is, she declares, "You're the one I'm with, you know I love you." And they both realize what she's just said for the first time, and they have to walk away from each other before they cry. It's been a while since the CBS comedy had such a sweet moment between these two lovebirds that seem to fight more lately than anything else. So maybe there is some hope for them.
What does Sheldon do at 2:45 p.m.?
After the two ninjas—not cat burglars—break into Sheldon's basement hideaway, Howard pushes Raj in to make sure there are no boobie traps. There wasn't, but the number 43 is written on the chalkboard. The question of the number 43 infuriates them, especially when they exhaust all options for what it could mean.
So, they install a camera and start to watch. Sheldon takes out his experimental log and starts his wormhole generator test. Suddenly, a wormhole opens up, and the absurdity is back! But of course Howard and Raj believe it, even when Sheldon sticks his head in and comes out screaming with an alien attached to his face... which then falls onto Howard and Raj's computer. Because, of course, it was all staged.
And Sheldon is never telling Howard and Raj what he's up to in the basement, ever. But fans get to know. In the last few seconds of "43 Peculiarity," Sheldon goes down to his cave, turns off his mind to recharge, and starts playing with a hacky sack. The mysteries of Sheldon Cooper will never cease to amaze.
Big Bang Theory airs on CBS Thursdays at 8 p.m. Eastern.
