On Thursday, The X Factor USA saw two talented acts leave for good as the top 12 were whittled down to the top 10. Although this is a necessary part of the TV talent show's process, those who lost their chance to win the $5 million recording contract were no doubt crestfallen even though getting this far was no small feat.
During the broadcast, Taylor Swift performed for the masses, singing from her album called Red. She offered a fresh rendition of her new single, State of Grace. Fans were thrilled with this happy distraction even if they were not thrilled with the first elimination: Lyric 145, a member of Simon Cowell's groups that comprised artists Jemelle Joseph, Julien Joesph, and Lyric Da Queen.
Da Queen said after learning the news that the group "didn't get the opportunity to show what [they] really had." Then this hip hop talent added, "We had original lyrics. We had a hip hop song that got snatched away..." This losing member of the losing group then added, "We're just taking the good and the bad right now."
Meanwhile, Arin Ray, Vino Alan, Carly Rose Soneclar, Diamond White, Tate Stevens, Beatrice Miller, CeCe Frey, Fifth Harmony, and Emblem3 learned that all of these acts would be part of the top 10 and would be back on X Factor USA next week.
Frey's ability to stay in the game without even a sing-off during the evening was a shocker to many pundits. That said, the two acts that did have to prove their mettle by warbling again in front of a tense crowd were Jennel Garcia and Paige Thomas, both women Demi Lovato charges who belong to the young adults category.
First, 18-year-old Jennel sang I Just Want You To Know and then 22-year-old Paige sang Paradise, a Coldplay classic. At that point, it was time for the judges to decide who was going home between these two eager talents.
LA Reid wasn't thrilled with making his mind up either way but he finally decided to send home Jennel Garcia while Britney Spears agreed with his choice. Then Simon Cowell told Jennel that she is the act who he wanted to let go as well so this was a done deal for Garcia as it was for Lyric 145. Neither act would end up in the top ten for X Factor USA.
But, with that said, did X Factor USA get it right? Did the talents voted off during Diva Week on Nov. 15, 2012 deserve to get the boot? Who do you think will be let go next week on this popular FOX show? Thoughts? Thanks.
