The X Factor USA celebrated music's biggest hits on 11/28/2012 with the top 8 singers singing songs that made it to the top of the charts at one time or another. That meant that these earnest crooners had to choose tunes that were not necessarily easy to differentiate from the original without spoiling the original's magic. The result? It was tough to make these songs shine with these particular performing the very familiar material.
That said, Diamond White wasn't afraid of this challenge. In fact, the extremely talented 13-year-old who is one of Britney Spears' charges on the hit Fox show picked one of the late, great Whitney Houston's biggest fan favorites, the upbeat I Wanna Dance With Somebody, which is a large departure from the ballads she often brings to this small screen event.
And while Diamond wasn't about to join the cast of Dancing with the Stars for next season with her act, which was done first under the glare of huge purple lights and later in a fantasy disco scene at which time she went into high gear as she rocked out, White did get her point across. And she did so with all the vigor of a professional performer twice her age.
In fact, after she sang her heart out and even delivered limited dance moves as well, White was told by superstar Britney Spears that she would dance with her "any day" after that particular performance that made Diamond's very protective mentor extremely proud.
Meanwhile, LA Reid wasn't altogether thrilled with White's performance, which was the first of the evening for The X Factor USA 2012 top 8. Even though the famous music producer awarded Diamond an A for effort, he brought down the grade to a B when it came to how White delivered the Whitney hit which he felt started out slow.
That said, Demi Lovato explained in her critique that she liked how much fun she had on the stage, but that she wanted to see more Diamond White on the stage. But Lovato was shot down by Simon Cowell who thought the act was all that and then some. He said, "It's the hardest thing to dance and sing at the same time...This was a really important performance... You are gunning for number one."
With those comments in mind from The X Factor judges, what do you think? Did Diamond White do her best with the Whitney Houston hit? And if she did, was that enough to help her get enough votes to carry this keen singer through to the next round when only 6 singers will be left singing on this TV talent show stage? Thoughts? Thanks.
