New Wonder Woman TV Series in the Works: Who Should Play the Superhero?

Wonder Woman is returning to the small screen in a new TV series, but the sexy superhero's story is going to be a bit different this time around.

The CW has already started searching for the next actress to try to fill Lynda Carter's famous star-spangled suit, and obviously the network is going to be extremely selective since the last attempt at bringing the superhero to the small screen was such a big failure—the series starring Adrianne Palicki didn't get picked up by NBC, and fans hated the updated costume that she wore in the pilot.

The CW is trying to distance its new series from that flop by dubbing it Amazon and changing the name of its superhero. The new Wonder Woman will be named Iris instead of Dinah.

The new TV series is an origin story, and Deadline has published part of the casting breakdown for the Iris character. According to Digital Spy, here's what it reads:

"She... has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield. Because of relentless brutality of her life at home, Iris looks at our world with absolute awe and astonishment."

Iris is definitely out of her element in this strange new world and "has no social filter, does not suffer fools, and tends to do and say exactly what's on her mind at all times."

So Iris is a no-nonsense kind of girl who tells it like it is. But she's not all talk—she's also a fighter. The casting breakdown describes Iris desire to eliminate evil from the world like this:

"Hers is a true, noble, and generous heart. And she will fight and die for the people she loves. Iris is a fierce warrior with the innocent heart of a romantic and she will fight to the death to make the world safe for innocents and true romantics everywhere."

Of course the big question now is this: who will the CW cast as Iris in the TV series?

It's a shame that Phoebe Tonkin has starred on CW series The Secret Circle and The Vampire Diaries, because she definitely has the right look for the role. CW viewers might have a hard time accepting her as Iris because of her roles on the other shows.

Channing Tatum's wife Jenna Dewan could be an excellent option—she rocked a costume very similar to Lynda Carter's skimpy superhero suit in the canceled series The Playboy Club.

Meghan Ory, who plays Red/Ruby on Once Upon a Time, might be one of the best options for the part. She can look wide-eyed and innocent, but on Once Upon a Time, she plays a fiercely-loyal friend willing to fight for those that she cares about.

Then there's Percy Jackson beauty Alexandra Daddario. She has piercing baby blues just like Lynda Carter, and she definitely looks like an Amazonian princess.
