L.A. Reid announced a couple weeks ago that he wouldn't return for the third season of The X Factor. Rumors have been swirling recently that Britney Spears is about to get fired, and Demi Lovato's future with the show is also up in the air. So since all of Simon Cowell's fellow mentors "have either ditched [the show] or are about to," he's looking for "possible replacement judges" for next season. And Star (via Gossip Cop) has the scoop on who he's targeting!
Two of the singers Simon allegedly has his eye on could be a good fit: Katy Perry and Shania Twain. Katy was in the running to join American Idol for its upcoming season, but she reportedly wasn't interested in doing it and turned down a $20 million offer -- which is $5 million more than Britney made this season, and since producers are allegedly looking to cut costs, the "Wide Awake" singer could be too expensive. But if she was interested in doing it and willing to take less than $15 million, she seems like she has the right personality for the show, as does Shania. When Shania was a guest judge on Idol a couple years ago, she gave good feedback to the singers, had good chemistry with Simon and seemed to have a good time. And considering country singer Tate Stevens was just crowned the winner of The X Factor's second season, bringing in a mentor with a country background could be smart. But Shania is in the middle of a two-year residency at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, so she probably won't have the time to do the show.
The other two entertainers Simon is allegedly considering recruiting... he should reconsider. Would Jessica Simpson really be a good mentor? If Simon was disappointed that Britney didn't offer much in the way of constructive feedback (or train-wreck meltdowns), then he has to realize that Jessica, although she seems like a sweet person, probably wouldn't be much better. It might be a moot point, though, depending on Jessica's Fashion Star contract. But Jessica would be way better than the fourth person Simon is supposedly targeting: Kim Kardashian. That's how you know Star's report is totally bogus, because there is no way anyone would ever consider her for something like this. Just because she's in a relationship with Kanye West and has released a terrible, overly-autotuned single doesn't make her qualified to judge actual singers. And, just like Jessica, Kim probably wouldn't be any better feedback-wise than Britney and would probably just keep repeating "amazing" all the time. Besides, there's already one Kardashian doing a bad job on that show, so producers don't need to add another one and risk totally alienating the viewers. So it doesn't take a genius to see that, as "a spokesperson for The X Factor" tells Gossip Cop, "This story is completely made up."
