Suits opens up on Mike (Patrick J. Adams) vacuuming up all his pot. He's doing as Harvey (Gabriel Macht) ordered, getting his crap together, but he leaves it a little late in the morning so he gets in after Harvey. D'oh!
At the office, Donna (Sarah Rafferty) meets Harvey at the elevator. She grills him about Zoe, and then she realizes that his being at the office so early can't mean good things about his weekend, and talks it all through, as she does, and realizes that the weekend never happened, but that's not why she met him at the elevator. His client, Trent Devon (Jon Foster), wants a meeting.
Harvey asks for Mike and is livid when he realizes that he hasn't arrived yet.
The meeting doesn't go so well. It turns out that Trent is a little nervous about things at Pearson Hardman. He's heard about the problems and he wonders if Harvey can really be focused on him as a result. He's worried about a new regulation that went into effect last week, and just generally, he's not happy. By the end of the meeting, neither is Harvey. He knows he's on rocky footing with Trent, and he does not lose clients.
Also not used to losing clients? Louis (Rick Hoffman). When Jessica (Gina Torres) warns him that his client Carillo is about to jump ship, he jumps all over poor Harold (Max Topplin). He wants a perfect contract by the next morning. When Mike gets in, he's in a great mood until Harvey rips him a new one. He yells. And yells some more. Donna chastises Harvey. She wants to know what happened with Zoe. He tells her about the niece and the dying brother. Their relationship is back from all the weirdness of the first half of the season. Mike is drowning his sorrows when Jimmy (Pooch Hall) comes up to say hey and rub his nose in all his happiness. Mike tells him it's not possible for an associate in corporate law to be happy, but he tells him that he's at Bratton Gould now and things are different, in fact...why doesn't Mike join him. He tells Jimmy that he can't leave Harvey. Jimmy points out that two others are bailing for Bratton Gould and Mike should too. Mike isn't interested in leaving, but he is interested in the information. He immediately goes over to Harvey's. Talking it out they realize that Alice Holt (Diane Neal), the attorney Hardman hired who wanted Jessica to throw Harvey under the bus is behind all this.
The next morning Harvey and Donna brainstorm on how to woo all his clients with things like tickets and dinners and whatever else they might want. Donna promises him that no one will leave. Louis storms into Rachel's (Meagan Markle) office. He wants to know where the Carillo contract is. Carillo has bailed. Louis screams for Harold. Rachel tries to tell him that Harold did a great job, but Louis isn't having it. Harold is at his desk. Mike peers down Harold's back, looking at his new tattoo. He looks really puzzled by what looks like a manatee, but backtracks when Harold says it's a shark. Which is when Louis comes charging in and fires him in front of everyone. Not well done, Louis.
Harold packs up his stuff and tells Mike he wishes they'd known each other at Harvard so that at least one person knew him when he was the Mike Ross. People used to come to him for help. He pulls out his first law school paper, and the comments on it are enough to make Mike widen his eyes. Mike asks Louis to take Harold back, but it turns out that Harold has made some big mistakes, one of which cost a client a lot of money. Louis agrees, but only if Mike guarantees all his work. Rachel's there when Mike tells Harold that he failed. He tells Mike that two other associates are leaving. Mike realizes that this means all four of the best fifth years are leaving. They're all from Louis' first class of associates. He tells Harvey. Harvey fumes. He accuses Louis of betraying the firm and he tells him that he's going to make things very uncomfortable for him at the firm. He throws a tantrum. Mike and Harvey go see Trent. He confirms that Alison has brought him a deal that would sell his company to another larger one, and that he'd get to run both. Harvey tells him if that's true he should go but let him look it over. He drops Mike at the office. Tess' husband (Brett Donahue) is waiting for him. He beats the snot out of him.
Louis is clearing out his office after having a resignation talk with Jessica and Alice. Jessica had him in near tears by telling him that she instituted the Louis Litt Rehabilitation Program because she knows what it is to be seduced by Daniel, but that he was right about Louis' worth. Louis is leaving when he sees Mike stumble out of the elevator. He cleans him up and admits he's leaving because Harvey hates him. Mike tells him not to, and that hasn't Harvey always hated him? Louis says no. They were business rivals but outside the office, they were friendly. He can't work with someone who hates him. Mike tells him to convince Harvey that he's not a traitor and asks for his help with the contract. Louis comes through. He realizes Trent's company will be sold for parts. Harvey keeps Trent and gets Alice's hedge fund client to boot. She puts the idea of named partner in his head though and he goes to Jessica with that. She tells him not now. He made a mistake with Louis. Harvey goes to Louis and rips up his resignation letter as "On My Way Home" plays.
