50 Shades of Grey movie favorite Ian Somerhalder might need to watch out for an actor who shares his name—now Ian Harding is being touted as the best man to play Anastasia Steele's spanking-happy seducer.
According to EnStarz, "With his good looks, piercing brown
eyes and dark mane, the German actor would undeniably fit the Grey role quite well." But of course Ian's looks would have to be altered slightly since Christian has copper-colored hair and intense gray eyes. Ian's eyes actually appear to be a shade of blue that's pretty close to gray, so gray contacts might not make a drastic difference in the way his eyes look.
The Pretty Little Liars actor does have experience playing a man who finds himself in a taboo relationship that changes his life. In 50 Shades, Christian Grey's dark secret is his desire to dominate sex slaves. However, Anastasia Steele challenges his twisted views on relationships by turning their lovemaking into something more than sex. And in Pretty Little Liars, Ian Harding's character Ezra starts to see a student as something more when they become secret lovers.
The student he falls for is played by Lucy Hale, one of the favorites for the role of Ana in the 50 Shades of Grey movie. Lucy must enjoy faking making out with Ian, because she started her own campaign to get him cast as Christian Grey—last summer she posted a photo of Ian on Istagram along with the caption, "50 Shades of Harding."
Lucy Hale has made it no secret that she wants to play Ana in 50 Shades, and maybe she'd like for Ian to play Christian because she's already comfortable working with him. Ian certainly wouldn't turn down the work since he's had very few movie roles, and he doesn't seem to have anything in the pipeline beyond Pretty Little Liars.
However, he doesn't have the same intensity as the other Ian—Ian Somerhalder knows how to smolder while it's hard to imagine Ian Harding playing a sex god with his sweet, guy-next-door look. However, he and brooding billionaire Christian do have something in common—they're both teachers. He just teaches an English class while Christian schools Anastasia on how to be the perfect submissive sex slave.
