The race for the cure is going to continue in The Vampire Diaries season 4 episode 18, "American Gothic," airing March 28, as revealed in the official episode description that the CW has now released, and it's going to lead them to a very familiar face.
Last the cure was seen, Katherine (Nina Dobrev) took it and ran as she left Jeremy with Silas, and in "American Gothic," Elena and Rebekah (Claire Holt) are going to be trying to find her. They'll end up in a small town in Pennsylvania, and Elena will have "a surprising encounter" with Elijah (Daniel Gillies). Yes, Elijah is back in episode 18, which is very good news—and it should be pretty interesting to see how they interact given everything that has happened to Elena this season. What will Elena be like in this episode? Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are both going to be worried about her state of mind, and while they want to help her, she lets them know that's not exactly going to be easy. But Stefan has an "unexpected plan for the future." What's on Stefan's mind? And how will this relate to what happens in New York in the previous episode when Damon takes her there because she needs a break?
Meanwhile back in Mystic Falls, Caroline (Candice Accola) will be reluctantly helping Klaus (Joseph Morgan), who "comes to a new understanding of Silas' powers." Whenever Silas is mentioned, there's reason to be concerned. And Silas is reason enough to put aside any differences, even those between Caroline and Klaus, but the question does remain: will Tyler be able to come home sooner rather than later or will he and Caroline continue to be apart and not have the chance to be happy together?
