50 Shades of Grey movie favorite Ian Somerhalder hasn't talked about his desire to play Christian Grey for quite some time now, so Fifty fans will be excited to learn that he's finally said a few more words about the role.
But, unfortunately, Ian doesn't sound so sure that he's the filmmakers' favorite for the role. According to Just Jared, here's what he told Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen about the 50 Shades movie:
"There are so many young boys up for this role. I can't say anything other than it's a very interesting story."
Notice how he referred to his competition as "young boys?" There's been some talk that Ian Somerhalder is too old to play Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey movie because the character is 28 and Ian is 34. There are still a lot of fans who think that The Vampire Diaries star could easily pull off playing a character that's a few years younger, but perhaps Ian is already indicating that his old age is affecting his chances at getting cast. However, it's unlikely that anyone associated with the film has told him that he's too old for role since casting talks haven't started yet -- he's probably just been keeping up with all the latest 50 Shades fan gossip.
But if Ian has actually been told that the filmmakers are looking for someone younger, this would also mean that another fan favorite, 35-year-old Matt Bomer, is also out of the running. So which "young boys" was Ian referring to?
It's possible he was talking about 29-year-olds Henry Cavill and Chris Hemsworth, 27-year-old Chace Crawford, or even 22-year-old Alex Pettyfer. There's also 31-year-old Arrow star Stephen Amell and 32-year-old actor Ryan Gosling, but they're not much younger than Ian. However, it's likely Henry Cavill was the "young boy" that Ian had in mind when he was making his comment. Henry seems like the biggest threat to Ian since he's another heavy fan favorite, and he's also a hot commodity right now because he's playing Superman in Man of Steel.
So do you think that Ian's age is going to hurt his chances, or would the filmmakers be crazy to count him out because of it?
