50 Shades of Grey movie casting talks actually have begun, according to one actor who is a favorite for the role of Christian Grey. But will Stephen Amell actually get the part?
E. L. James, the movie producers, and screenwriter Kelly Marcel have all said that casting talks won't begin until the screenplay is finished and a director is attached. So maybe all of this has happened -- James and Marcel met up not too long ago, so they were probably tweaking the script. There have also been rumors that "Breaking Dawn" director Bill Condon has already been chosen to bring 50 Shades to the big screen.
According to Just Jared, this is what Stephen Amell said about attending a meeting about the 50 Shades of Grey movie:
"I get questions about Christian Grey all the time. That project is a long way off. I know this, because I had a meeting about it. Long way off. I mean, not that long, but not close. I wouldn't call it long, but I wouldn't call it close."
The movie is supposed to hit theaters next summer, so it can't be that far off.
From the sounds of it, casting talks are in very early stages, so Stephen might be one of many actors that the filmmakers are meeting with right now. It's possible that they've also talked to other favorites like Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill, and Ian Somerhalder, so Stephen could have some very stiff competition.
The Arrow actor became a favorite for the Christian Grey role after fans of the CW superhero show saw a promo photo of Stephen looking very sexy in a suit. They were so impressed with how much he looked like their imaginary billionaire boyfriend that they started a popular Facebook page to campaign for Stephen to get cast as Christian. Stephen's Arrow character is a super-rich guy with a secret second life and a hot body, so it's very easy to see why he's continued to attract the attention of Anastasia Steele wannabes.
So are you glad that Stephen is already in talks for the role, or are you worried that your favorite for the part might not be in the running anymore?
