This is way better news than previously reported. Instead of Howard Stern taking Jimmy Fallon's place on Late Night, a new report has SNL's Seth Meyers at the helm. That means Seth would take Jimmy Fallon's spot when Jimmy takes Jay Leno's spot when he retires from The Tonight Show in 2014. Did you follow all that?
According to a report from Hollywood Life, Lorne Michaels and Jimmy Fallon are supposedly grooming the Weekend Update host for the late night comedy spot.
"Lorne Michaels wants Seth to take over from Fallon. It would be perfect for him. Tina Fey's name had also come up, but she has said she was too busy to do it," a source says.
Can you imagine Seth hosting Late Night? He'd be hilarious—and he's a much better option than Howard Stern. Stern is just not funny at all. Seth has the same kind of silly sense of humor that Jimmy Fallon has. He'd be a shoe in for the spot.
Jay Leno, in the meantime, isn't thrilled about all this talk about change. Both he and Jimmy Fallon have taken to dissing the network on their respective late night talk shows.
How do you suppose this will all turn out? Will Jay Leno pull some kind of rank or is he simply out of options when his contract expires? Rumor has it he'd be immediately pursued by FOX if he leaves NBC, which could find him competing directly with Jimmy Fallon.
What's your thought about Seth Meyers taking Jimmy Fallon's place? It's probably the best idea the network has purportedly come up with in this whole complicated switch so far!
